When MySpace gives in to religious bigotry

Pericles's picture

As I was surfing the net without a specific purpose last night I stumbled upon a relative short article on a Secular Student Alliance's article regarding MySpace. Apparently, social networking site, MySpace.com, deleted the Atheists and Agnostic Group which had 35,000 members. This deletion, due mainly to complains from religious people marks the second time MySpace has removed the group since November 2007.

Needless to say that the company refuses to re-instate the group using their back ups. They even refuse to comment on what happened. Apparently the group has been hacked by religious vigilantes. Then, MySpace decided to permanently remove the group.

So let me get this right. Firstly, you have some religious motherfakers who hack into the group, in god's name. Then, MySpace, found a great excuse to delete it, since they may have had complaints from other religious bigots that that group was offensive.

If I am not mistaken, this is called plain and simple DISCRIMINATION. In case you do not understand the meaning of the word, click here. MySpace's action further constitutes a case of violation of FREEDOM OF SPEECH; a typical case of CENSORSHIP.

At the end of November I published a story about the church imposing on our reading and viewing habits. I was almost certain that something new would have happened fairly soon. Unfortunately, I was right. What we see, here, is yet another example of Christianity's bigotry and fanaticism. When they find something offensive (which is pretty much everything except their mythological bible), everybody has to bend over and obey them. But, of course, it is always a one-way street. Guess what; the 35,000 deleted members of MySpace and myself find religion extremely offensive and retarded. I guess that it is time to ask for MySpace to delete all the theist groups as well. After all, their belief is based on mythology and lies. How much more freaking offensive than that?

We live on the 2008th year of the Common Era. Humanity has fought hard against religious intolerance and fear. Many people were murdered over the millennia simply because they dared to question and defy the religious establishment. These days we seem to go back to those Dark Ages. At a time when religious beliefs held centre stage in US politics and the war in Iraq turns to be a Christian Crusade against Islam, fighting the darkness of the three monotheistic religions should be our outermost concern.

By the way, guess who owns MySpace. Non other than the Republican Murdoch. The same guy who owns the F-aking Ox-ymoron News Network. So, all of a sudden, Myspace's action starts to makes sense, right? Imagine if these psychos have their way. Imagine a world without freedom of speech, without any rights. Imagine a world where the (Un) Holly Inquisition exists yet again. Sounds far fetched? I hope so.

Let us all raise our voice against those who want to take our freedom away. They have the right to believe in whatever crap they want. IT IS THEIR RIGHT. Equally, though, it is out right not to believe in their non-sense. We want to leave them alone, but they won't do the same. That's why we need to fight back. If you are annoyed with what they do, let people know. Write a story on your blog. It is time to be heard yet again. Please sign the petition here. Thanks for reading.
