This morning I was listening to a song by Philippos Pliatsikas. The central theme goes something like:
"If I could change the world, I would turn the sea blue again. If I could change something in the world, I would turn the sea blue again."

It is clear to me that it is a political song with a purpose to make us think: to make us think of what is going on in the world. All we have to do is look around and observe. The world is in disarray. Where shall I begin? We are simply destroying ourselves. People continue to perish. War, genocide, famine, diseases, human right violations. Wherever I turn, I see pain and suffering.I see the few taking advantage of the many. I see 99% of the wealth being accumulated by 1% of the population; and when this 1% faks up the world economy, not only do they get bonuses but they are then bailed out by the rest 99%. Am I missing something here?
Shall I continue? What about establishments like governments which "know" what is best for us, and will go and screw us up because it is in our best interest. So let me make this clear: It is in my best interest to pay 45% of my salary to taxes because the government wants to wage an illegal war. On top of that I have to pay for my kids' (if I ever have any) education. I also have to pay for a health system, which just sucks. Perhaps it is time to move to Denmark.
Or shall I start talking about religious establishments? They are the representative of God and, thus, by default, they know what is best for us. After all, God has a plan for us. Really? How do they know and what is this plan that we always hear but never see? Do you know what I see? I see a bunch of thugs trying to control the rest of us in every means possible and they start from a young age.
Instead of putting our efforts into solving issues such as famine, AIDS, cancer, we are doing nothing. Don't tell me that the peanuts we are putting in are enough. We do it just to say that we are doing something. Let's face it. There is misery all around us and there is really nothing to alleviate it. Our lives are just ticking away.

Do you know what else I see? I see a climate out of control and a planet in peril. I see most of us pretending that we care but do nothing; and don't tell me that the Earth Hour was anything more than just a stunt to make us feel good about doing nothing but seeming to do something. Unless the governments are pro-active and serious about climate change, the climate will change drastically but in the wrong direction.
The funny thing is that the planet will eventually heal itself and return to equilibrium. But, by doing that, many species may be lost in the process. I am afraid that our specieswill be one of them. Life will continue, perhaps, without us. You know, the Mayan calendar ends on 2012. Many people predict the end of the world is going to happen on 2012. In general I tend not to believe in this BS. People said the same thing for the year 2000 after all.
However there is one thing I believe. If people do not start realising that we are being manipulated by the few and stop being oblivious about their surroundings then the end will come. Maybe not as an end to human life, but as an end to freedom and dignity. If I cannot be free to think for myself and do good then what is the point of living? Perhaps it is time to stop being oblivious, remove your head from your ass, and turn the sea blue once again.

dire situation
I agree with your whole rant. People are simply too lazy or apathetic to do anything about the problems they see around themselves. Everyone wants to leave it all up to that 1%, but that 1% would rather fake it than follow through on people's wishes.
